Purpose

Root Seekers Genealogical Society is organized as a nonprofit, educational organization, managed by a Board of Directors.  Its purpose is to further the development of genealogical research and to act as a training agency for people interested in genealogical research, to acquire a collection of genealogical and historical material, and to make the information available to others doing genealogical research.  It is operated as a non-profit, tax exempt Section 501(c)(3) as defined by the Internal Revenue Service and eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions in accordance with Code section 170.

Our web site is designed with two goals in mind:

  1.  To provide information free to all researchers; however we would appreciate users crediting the Root Seekers Genealogical Society as the source.  (Approximately 90% of the information provided here is open to all.  The exceptions are the membership list, the meeting minutes and the Quarterly Newsletters which have interest only to members or are closed due to privacy.  These are open to Members Only.)
  2. Research is provided by the members as an outgrowth of their personal study with few links to other sources.

As part of its purpose to act as a training agency for people interested in genealogical research, Root Seekers tries to have one of its members available on Tuesday mornings at the Tri-County Library in Mabank, Texas to help beginning researchers.  To read an article from The Monitor about this, click here.
