Bladen County, North Carolina, Tax Lists 1773 through 1789, Volume II
This book is a necessity for those looking for family in Bladen County, NC. Bladen was formed from New Hanover Precinct in 1734. At this time it covered a large territory from which Anson, Orange, Cumberland, Brunswick and Robeson counties were formed. In 1800 and again in 1893, courthouse fires destroyed most of the court records and some of the land records. This volume hopes to partially fill this void for historians and genealogists.
Chapter One consists of full transcriptions of loose papers including wills, deeds, confiscation papers and oaths of allegiance. Chapters Two through Eight are tax lists from the years 1775 – 1779, and 1786, 1787, 1789. Appendix A gives a summary of the North Carolina Tax Laws 1777 – 1788 including “what Crimes and Practices against the State shall be Treason.”
This large format, attractively arranged book can be purchased from HERITAGE BOOKS, INC., 1540-E Pointer Ridge Place, Bowie, MD 20716, for $33.50 plus $4.00 S & H.
