Sibley Cemetery

Florien, Sabine Parish, Louisiana

Sibley Cemetery is located on Plainview Road west of Highway 171 in Florein, Sabine Parish, Louisiana. The cemetery is marked by a sign on Plainview Road and is about 1.8 miles past the turnoff for Toro Baptist Church Road. The enumeration was completed in June of 2000 by Pat and R. C. Stokes. The people at the Many Chamber of Commerce in Sabine Parish and Mr. Kirk Rogers of Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many were very helpful in our locating the cemetery.

Mr. Dennis Sparks who now leases the property from Rev. Carl Smith of Center, Texas, was instrumental in helping us contact the present owner and the g g g g grandson of Reddick Sibley, the brother of Robert Flint Sibley, William L. Sibley (first pastor of Toro Baptist Church), Patience Sibley, John Sibley, and Emily Sibley.

It is necessary to cross a pasture past an old house which the neighbors call the “Sibley House.” I have been told that the house at one time was a “dog trot” house, but the Sibleys had remodeled it and by closing the dog trot had made a unified house. The house is no longer occupied and has fallen into disrepair.
