“From Tyler to Sharpsburg”
The War Letters of Robert and William Gaston, Company H, First Texas Infantry Regiment, Hood’s Texas Brigade
These letters reflect the life and times of the Confederate unit of Company H from July of 1861 to November of 1862. They record the camp life, the marches, the rumors, the battles and always their opinions of their leaders. In the last Letter, William relates the sade news that Robert is missing in action since the battle of Sharpsburg, or Antietam. Later it was reported that Robert was killed there, 21 September 1862.
